The Labor Law provides a legal framework designed to protect the rights of employees. Among the most fundamental of these rights are minimum wage, regulation of weekly working hours, overtime payments, and leave rights. In Turkey, working hours are restricted to 45 hours, and workers who work beyond this limit are entitled to overtime pay. The pay for overtime should be 50% more than the normal working hour rate.
Additionally, the annual leave rights of employees are also important. An employee earns the right to annual leave after working at the same workplace for at least one year. This leave duration increases depending on the employee's seniority. For example, employees who work between 1 to 5 years have the right to take at least 14 days of annual leave, while those who have worked for more than 5 years are entitled to at least 20 days of annual leave. Furthermore, severance pay is also covered under the Labor Law, which employees are entitled to in case of termination. Severance pay is calculated for employees who have worked for at least one year, based on 30 days of gross salary for each year of service.
